SENIOR TRADING ANALYST (ENERGY MARKETS)

Company

Sev.en Commodities AG trades in electricity, coal and emission allowances markets through energy exchanges, brokers, and trade counterparties. It is currently ongoing an expansion of activities, with gas trading in Europe planned to start operations in 2019.

Sev.en Commodities AG also provides production optimization, hedging, and dispatch control for Seven Energy group assets.

Job Description

Trading Analyst lead the development of trading strategies and play a key role in managing portfolio construction and risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • develop and participate in execution of trading strategies for a portfolio of energy assets and bilateral contracts
  • assist the team in developing and enhancing analytical processes
  • improve and scale portfolio risk taking
  • identify short and longer term opportunities based on micro and macro fundamentals
  • participate in portfolio construction and risk-taking decisions
  • use new and existing insights to support idea generation and commodity analysis
  • challenge consensus views and monitor volatility

Your skills and knowledge

  • bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in statistics, mathematics, computer science, finance or economics
  • strong understanding of financial modeling, specifically using Python and/or VBA, Matlab
  • prior commodities experience
  • excellent analytical and quantitative skills, with strong attention to detail
  • strong written and verbal communications skills
  • ability to manage multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced team environment
  • experience with AI is an advantage

Market scientist/Chief analyst

We are a young and dynamic team with very ambitious goals. We aim to take advantage of the current situation on the European energy market - expand our production base and become a key player European player. We are currently looking for exceptional and reliable colleagues with extensive analytical background to expand our team. You will be responsible for fundamental analysis of target energy markets including their regulatory frameworks, for global commodities and you will be involved also in assessment of specific investment opportunities. You will develop necessary analytical toolbox including market models and you will communicate with leading analytical service providers.

Minimum requirements:

  • University degree with excellent grades
  • Fluent English (German or other major European languages is beneficial)
  • 2-3 years of experience in analytical services
  • Strong analytical skills (knowledge of analytical platforms in addition to full Excel proficiency)
  • Knowledge of mathematical modelling (e.g. linear programming) is advantage
  • Team player with responsible and proactive approach and solid communication skills

You will be responsible for evaluation of acquisition opportunities in European energy markets and hands-on execution of transactions, incl. due diligences, valuations, and negotiations with sellers and sell-side advisors.

  • University degree with excellent grades
  • Fluent English (German or other major European languages beneficial)
  • 2-3 years of transactional and/or finance experience
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Excel financial modelling and valuation proficiency
  • Experience or interest in the energy sector welcome
